An eating fork has 4 prongs and so has a garden fork. Neptune's trident has 3 prongs.
A fork in a road is where a road splits into 2 different directions.

Driving to the centre of Exeter from the club, past the Heavitree shops, there is a set of traffic lights with a fork in the road. The main road forks to the right and runs downhill to St. Sidwell's Point, the new leisure complex. The smaller left fork is Magdalen Road heading to Exe Bridges or the R D & E Hospital.
In chess, you create a fork when your piece attacks 2 (or more) of your opponents pieces at the same time. It is powerful because your opponent might only be able to defend against one of the attacks. For example . . . . (to follow)
